Flick Labs

Staying Ahead of the Curve

The mobile market moves fast! Flick Labs was created as a technology playground to give our team members free time to explore new technologies and try new ideas. Here is our list of some our past research projects. Some of have gone on to be commercial products while others have served to better our understanding of what is possible.

Number Cruncher

This experiment in cross-platform development turned into one of the  top rated games for Blackberry, iPhone, Windows Mobile and Andriod with over 3 million downloads!

The iSwish Interface

Devices with non-multi-touch screens are missing out on all the fun. With this project we not only put a cool iPhone-like skin on a Windows Mobile device, we also implemented all the cool interface stuff.

Word Waster

Games are often the most demanding applications to develop for mobile devices because they push the limits of what the hardware and operating systems can do. Some of our team members like to stay technically sharp by writing games. Word Waster is another smash hit to come out of the labs.

Mobile Interactive Guide

Multimedia on handheld devices was once slow, tough to implement and difficult to navigate. This project changed all of that.

Android Odata + Sync Client

Android OData + Sync Client

Diving deeper into the cloud, we built and very cool OData + Sync client for Android with a prototype implementation on top of it.

Patient Informed Consent Guide

Some of our team worked with our partners at St. Jude Hospital to develop better ways to educate patients taking part in clinical trials.

Handheld Interface for Disabled Children

This prototype allowed temporarily severely disabled brain surgery patients at Bloor View Hospital to navigate the web using only head movements.

Incoming Call Replacement App and Platform

This app, and its associated back-end platform, replaces the dialer on your smartphone. When calls come in from known parties, it displays images, live status and other shared information about the caller. It can even serve context sensitive ads.
